“History helps pupils to understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and the relationships between different groups, as well as their own identity and challenges of their time…” (National Curriculum Guidelines for History, 2013)
The History curriculum at Outwood Academy Bishopsgarth aims to inspire pupils curiosity about the world in which they live and gain knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. The curriculum is based around enquiry questions and staff within the department continually encourage students to; ask perceptive questions, think critically, evaluate and analyse evidence, consider different interpretations and develop their own judgements.
From Year 9- Year 11, students study for the Edexcel GCSE (9-1) in History. The course is assessed by completion of three examination papers, taken at the end of Year 11.
If would like further information about the topics, themes or assessment for this course please contact: Mrs Mills (Head of Humanities): email@example.com
Year 11 Enrichment is every Tuesday lunchtime as well as Wednesday from 2:30-3:30 in the History department.
The History department also seeks to provide further enrichment opportunities for students during the academic year of 2018-2019 by taking opportunities to work with the local historical association as well as further extend the learning of students, by offering study trips and learning experiences beyond the classroom.
